Coalition Director — Canadians for Digital Sovereignty (C4DS)

C4DS is hiring its inaugural Coalition Director for a full-time, remote and extensible six-month term. Reporting to the Board Executive, the Director will transform C4DS from an emerging national coalition into a credible, effective, and influential voice on Canada’s digital sovereignty. This is a builder role for a strategic, entrepreneurial leader who can establish internal systems while driving external impact. The Director will oversee day-to-day operations, coalition growth, stakeholder engagement, and public engagement while supporting the Board with fundraising.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Operations: Oversee daily operations, build core systems and internal coordination, set workplans and deliverables, oversee campaigns and support organizational sustainability and fundraising in coordination with the Board.
  • Strategy & Governance: Prepare Board and Executive briefing materials, support priority projects and policy interventions, and help sequence the organization’s work for maximum impact.
  • Network-Building & Engagement: Deepen relationships with allies, advisors, and partners; expand the network across regions, sectors, communities including labour unions; build ties with policymakers, civil society, academia, and cultural institutions; represent C4DS externally.
  • Communications & Campaigns: Coordinate public communications and narrative development, particularly through network members’ channels; manage external vendors and consultants; support media engagement and digital outreach to build C4DS’s visibility and credibility.
  • Policy & Public Affairs: Draft briefing notes, submissions, and public materials; monitor Canadian digital, trade, media, and AI policy developments; position C4DS to intervene strategically at key policy moments.

The ideal candidate is organized, politically astute, self-directed, and comfortable working across policy, operations, communications, and coalition leadership — with a genuine commitment to the Canadian public interest. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Some travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership, coalition-building, campaigns, or advocacy experience
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian public policy, including platform governance, media policy, AI governance, trade, privacy, democracy, and online harms
  • Experience working with boards, senior advisors, or multi-stakeholder coalitions
  • Strong project management, judgment, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Fundraising, partnership, and external relations experience
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset

Why This Matters
Canada is at a pivotal moment where digital sovereignty impacts economic resilience, value capture, democratic self-determination, public safety, Canadian culture, and the country’s capacity to govern in the public interest. This role offers a rare chance to help build a new organization at the center of that work.

About C4DS
C4DS is a public-interest coalition convening experts, advocates, researchers, civil society, and labour groups concerned with platform power, AI governance, trade and digital policy, infrastructure, data governance, online harms, and Canada’s information environment.
